EFCC Seals Former AGF Family Abuja Residence Over Forfeiture Order, as Malami Decries Unlawful Eviction

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken over the family residence of former Attorney‑General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), in Maitama, Abuja, in a move he has described as illegal and a violation of due process.

In a press briefing on Tuesday, 24th March, 2026, Malami alleged EFCC operatives of storming and sealing his property at No. 2, Koronakh Close, off Amazon Street, Maitama, on Monday. He continued saying the anti-graft agency returned the following day with armed personnel to complete the takeover.

Malami said his family was forcibly evicted without any court‑issued order for such purpose without the appointment of a receiver manager. He therefore insisted that the existing interim forfeiture order of January 6, 2026, did not authorise such a step.

The former AGF argued that since the matter is already before the Federal High Court, where he challenged the forfeiture order, the EFCC should have restrained from taking unilateral enforcement actions.

He maintained that executing court processes is the exclusive duty of bailiffs and sheriffs, not the litigating party, and therefore termed the eviction as unprecedented, a one devoid of legal backing under the Nigerian legal system.

Malami further pointed to possible political malice, saying the incident occurred shortly after his release from detention. While he failed to openly label the action as vendetta due to the pending case, he vowed to pursue all available legal avenues to contest the EFCC’s seizure of the said property.

The EFCC’s takeover of the Maitama residence was conducted by a heavy contingent of officers, who reportedly arrived in several buses before blocking the road that leads to the home.
