Eid-el-Fitr: Tinubu Calls on Muslims to Embrace Compassion and National Unity

President Bola Tinubu has extended warm congratulations to Muslims across Nigeria on the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr, urging the faithful to uphold and embody the timeless values of piety, compassion, and unity well beyond the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement released on Thursday and signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President emphasized that the celebration of Eid should not only be a moment of spiritual reflection and joy but also an opportunity for Nigerian Muslims to renew their commitment to the nation and to the broader cause of humanity.

Tinubu stressed that the lessons of Ramadan are enduring and should inform daily conduct, encouraging the faithful to continue practicing selflessness, kindness, and perseverance in all aspects of life.

Speaking on the significance of the holy month, President Tinubu enjoined Muslims to rededicate themselves to the noble teachings that Ramadan instills, highlighting its emphasis on moral rectitude, empathy, and unity among people.

“We have a lot to draw from the noble lessons of Ramadan, especially at a time like this. We must continue to abide by the virtues of piety, selflessness, perseverance, kindness and compassion beyond this period,” he said.

The President’s message underscored the expectation that the spiritual reflection and moral discipline cultivated during fasting should translate into concrete acts of goodwill in everyday life, reinforcing bonds within communities and across diverse religious and social divides.

He particularly encouraged Muslims to extend acts of kindness to the less privileged, regardless of their faith, as a demonstration of national unity and shared humanity.

In addition to urging individual acts of benevolence, President Tinubu called on Muslim leaders and clerics to use the occasion of Eid to offer prayers for peace, stability, and prosperity throughout Nigeria.

He noted that the collective supplication of religious leaders could serve as a unifying force, bringing together communities in pursuit of national progress and harmony.

His message positioned Eid not only as a spiritual milestone but also as a societal one, reminding citizens of the shared responsibilities that come with faith, civic engagement, and leadership in fostering a peaceful and prosperous nation.

Parallel to the President’s message, it was reported that as part of broader efforts to support citizens during the Ramadan period, the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, a political support group associated with the President, has been directed to distribute rice across the country.

The Director-General of the group and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, disclosed this initiative in a statement on Saturday, noting that it is designed to strengthen national unity and demonstrate compassion during a period of deep spiritual significance for both Muslims and Christians.

Uzodinma highlighted that the project reflects the President’s personal commitment to humanitarian values, stating, “Ramadan and Lent are seasons that remind us of sacrifice, charity, and care for one another.”

This initiative, according to Uzodinma, exemplifies the practical expression of the values President Tinubu champions empathy, generosity, and communal solidarity and serves as a tangible reminder that periods of religious observance are opportunities for all citizens to contribute positively to the welfare of others, transcending religious or social distinctions.

By combining words of spiritual reflection with tangible humanitarian action, President Tinubu’s Eid message reinforces a vision of Nigeria where faith, compassion, and unity inform both personal conduct and collective national purpose.

He urged citizens to carry forward the lessons of Ramadan into daily life, ensuring that the ethical and moral growth achieved during the holy month translates into lasting social cohesion and a strengthened commitment to the common good.

Through prayers, charitable deeds, and acts of solidarity, the President emphasized, Nigerians can continue to build bridges across communities, support the vulnerable, and promote the enduring values that bind the nation together in peace and progress.
