The Federal Ministry of Education has officially launched the Inspire Live(s) Online Real-Time Classes Initiative, a nationwide digital learning programme designed to provide schoolchildren across Nigeria with expanded access to quality education.
The initiative aims to bridge the learning gap caused by teacher shortages and interruptions in the education sector, while ensuring that students in all parts of the country can participate in structured, interactive lessons.
In a statement on Tuesday, Folasade Boriowo, Director of Press and Public Relations at the ministry, described Inspire Live(s) as a “groundbreaking programme” that aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
Boriowo said the initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to equitable education, emphasizing that the programme ensures no child is left behind regardless of geographic location or circumstance.
Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, confirmed that the programme has already begun nationwide and noted that its rollout is planned to cover all classes from Primary 1 to Senior Secondary 3.
According to Alausa, the initiative represents a long-term strategy to modernize Nigeria’s educational delivery and expand opportunities for students who may lack access to highly qualified teachers.
The Inspire platform delivers live, interactive lessons via Cisco Webex, allowing students to engage in real-time with certified master teachers. Currently, the initiative focuses on Junior Secondary School (JSS) and Senior Secondary School (SSS) students, with lessons held Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The live sessions aim to make learning more engaging and accessible, particularly for students in remote or underserved areas.
For JSS students, the programme offers a wide range of subjects, including Basic Science, Mathematics, English Language, ICT, Agricultural Science, Basic Technology, Civic Education, French, Physical Education, Religious Studies, History, and Business Studies. The SSS curriculum similarly provides comprehensive coverage, featuring Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English Language, Mathematics, Economics, Geography, Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing/Catering Craft, Civic Education, and Automobile Mechanics.
To ensure smooth nationwide implementation, the ministry has instructed state Commissioners for Education to nominate State Focal Officers to coordinate the Inspire Live(s) activities. These officers are tasked with liaising with schools, monitoring participation, and ensuring that all students and teachers have access to the digital resources required for effective learning.
The ministry has also emphasized the importance of equipping schools with basic ICT infrastructure and reliable internet connectivity, highlighting that seamless delivery of the programme depends on these minimum technological requirements. According to the statement, schools must meet these criteria to participate, and principals are responsible for registering their students through the official Inspire support channels.
Importantly, the programme is open to all public and private schools nationwide, reinforcing the government’s commitment to inclusivity. The initiative is designed to democratize learning, giving students in rural communities the same access to quality education as those in urban centers. This approach aims to reduce educational disparities and provide equal opportunities for academic success across the country.
Educators and parents have welcomed the initiative as a timely intervention, particularly given the disruptions caused by teacher shortages and other systemic challenges.
