Educational Series: As people rely more on technology to solve their problems, the ability of humans to think for themselves will surely decrease.

Below is a response to the above issue essay:

Almost all facets of human endeavours are being penetrated by technological innovations, from the basics of farming to advanced fields like space travel. As technological innovations have come to be a part of our daily life, we have become much dependent on it generally, a corollary of this is the fear that as we keep depending on this trend of technology we will loose the ability to think for ourself. Even though they’re some that have an opposite opinion, If we consider the negative consequences of Artificial Intelligence, and some other vices, we can reliably believe that the continued dependence on tech will hamper our acuity.

The new wave of artificial intelligence though has made us faster and more efficient, have made us relatively dumber in terms of technical knowledge of the discipline we profess, take for example it is reported that the majority of computer programmers have no idea the structure and working of codes and they deliver on projects such as websites and apps using AI, the downside to this is that maintainance roles eludes them as they cannot debug and spend considerable more time trying than would a colleague of theirs that does not rely on AI.

Another point worth noting is the detrimental effects of tech in academic work. Nowadays most  students rely on technological innovations such as AI to do their assignments, essays and project reports, this is very detrimental as it defeats the motive of which the assignments and essays were introduced for. Hence rather than doing those academic works themselves to improve their knowledge base and acuity, they just get the answer directly from AI tools, though they might get maximum score, but have defeated the aim in learning.

This is also evident in the loss of innovation in certain disciplines, assembly lines using computer aided manufacturing recycle same design and is less adaptable to change or introduce revolutionary design changes in products, hence we keep seeing watered down innovations in the name of sophistication. This would have been mitigated had more humans being involved in a lot of the processes of product manufacture. We saw this in the tragedy of general motors how over reliance in technological mode of robotic car manufacturing ultimately led to their downfall.

We may argue that the use of tech has made man able to conquer some issues, hereby opening him up to use his mental energy on other or higher problems, although this might be the case, at least we can see that after we’ve conquered farming tools, we moved on to processing, and after having the tech for processing, we’re now more productive that we produce in excess and we can provide new jobs in marketing. But if we look critically at this we can see that in some of these fields where overreliance on tech takes place, we see tools recycling already oversaturated works leading to consequences such as AI writen articles being boring to read.

In conclusion if people rely more on tech, it will hinder their mental acuity. When we take innovation, learning into consideration, we can comfortable believe this opinion.
