President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced that he will mark his 74th birthday in a subdued manner, stating that the decision reflects the prevailing mood of the nation and aligns with his personal tradition of observing birthdays with restraint during challenging times.
In a message released on Sunday to commemorate the occasion, the President said he deliberately chose a low-key observance out of consideration for the current circumstances facing the country. According to him, the decision is consistent with how he has historically marked personal milestones, particularly when the nation is navigating significant economic and social challenges.
Tinubu stressed that modest celebrations signal sensitivity to citizens’ hardships. He resolved to keep this year’s observance simple, matching both the national atmosphere and his administration’s determination to tackle pressing economic and developmental challenges.
The President used the moment to express appreciation to Nigerians across the country and in the diaspora who sent goodwill messages and prayers on the occasion of his birthday. He said the support and encouragement received from citizens continue to strengthen the resolve of his administration as it pursues policies aimed at stabilising and reforming the economy.
Tinubu also acknowledged individuals and organisations that placed congratulatory messages in newspapers or paid for broadcast airtime to mark the occasion.
