President Donald Trump announced that the United States has begun “major combat operations” against Iran, warning its leaders to surrender or face “certain death.”
In a speech posted on X on Saturday, Trump said the campaign aims to eliminate Iran’s nuclear programme, destroy its missile capabilities and end what he described as the regime’s long-running support for terrorism.
“A short time ago, the United States military began major combat operations in Iran,” he said. “Our objective is to defend the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime.”
He accused Tehran of decades of violence against US interests and allies, referencing past attacks on American forces and support for militant groups across the Middle East.
Trump said the operation would target Iran’s missiles, navy and regional proxies. “We are going to destroy their missiles… We’re going to annihilate their navy,” he said.
He warned of possible US casualties but framed the offensive as necessary for national security.
In a direct message to Iranian forces, Trump said: “Lay down your weapons and have complete immunity or… face certain death.”
He also urged Iranian citizens to rise against their government, calling the moment a rare chance to “seize control of your destiny.”
“May God bless the United States of America,” he concluded.
