FG to Arraign Suspects Over Yelewata Killings on Monday

The federal government has announced that suspects arrested in connection with the killings in Yelewata, Benue state, will be arraigned on Monday.

In June 2025, suspected criminal herders attacked Yelewata community in Guma Local Government Area of the state, killing more than 100 people.

Days after the attack, Kayode Egbetokun, the inspector-general of police (IGP), disclosed that 28 suspects had been arrested over their alleged involvement in the incident.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Kamarudeen Ogundele, senior assistant to the president on communication and publicity in the office of the attorney-general of the federation, said the suspects would be arraigned before Joyce Abdul-Malik, a justice of the federal high court in Abuja.

According to the government, the arraignment followed a “painstaking investigation and collaboration” by relevant security and government agencies.

The federal government assured Nigerians that “justice will be ensured in the matter”, adding that the prosecution is intended to send “a strong signal to the enemies of the country, acting under any disguise”.

Ogundele said the administration of President Bola Tinubu remains committed to the protection of lives and property, as enshrined in the constitution.
