Finally, Tinubu sends three names of ambassadorial nominess to Senate

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, announced earlier today during plenary that President Tinubu has forwarded three names of ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation.

The three nominees submitted are: Kayode Are from Ogun State, Aminu Dalhatu from Jigawa State, and Ayodele Oke from Oyo State.

This marks a significant shift after a prolonged diplomatic hiatus that began in September 2023, when Tinubu recalled all ambassadors from Nigeria’s 109 foreign missions as part of a comprehensive diplomatic review.

Before this, the presidency had only recently received a fresh ambassadorial list cleared by the national intelligence agency, the Department of State Services (DSS), signaling that the vetting of prospective envoys was complete and the next step was Senate transmission.

With the names now before the Senate, the upper chamber is tasked with screening and, if satisfied, confirming the nominees. The Senate President indicated that more names could follow in subsequent submissions.
