Crisis Looms at PDP Headquarters as Factions Schedule Anticipated Clash Meetings

A major confrontation is brewing within the opposition of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as two rival factions have scheduled crucial meetings for the same venue on Tuesday, 18th November, 2025, setting the stage for a potential clash.

The newly elected National Chairman of the party, Kabiru Turaki, has announced an inaugural National Working Committee (NWC) meeting at the PDP’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, in Abuja.

However, the party’s secretariat is also the location where a faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has summoned an emergency meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Board of Trustees (BoT) for the same day.

The Wike faction is led by Muhammed Abdulrahman and includes the National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu. This group was among ten members, including former Governor Ayodele Fayose, expelled from the party during its national convention in Ibadan over the weekend.

Despite their expulsion, Mr. Anyanwu issued notices for the NEC and BoT meetings, asserting that the convention and its decisions were invalid due to subsisting court orders.

Turaki Vows to Defend Party

In a press briefing after meeting with the FCT Commissioner of Police, Dantawaye Miller, Mr. Turaki firmly distanced his leadership from the rival meetings. He declared the individuals behind them are no longer members of the PDP.

“We have seen, flying in the social media, a reported notice of BOT and NEC meeting given by people who, for all intents and purposes, are no longer members of this party,” Turaki stated. “The decision taken in the national convention overrides every other decision.”

Turaki confirmed he had alerted the police to the situation to prevent a “breach of peace.” He emphatically asserted control over the party headquarters, labeling anyone occupying it without his consent as an “interloper.”

In a strongly worded declaration, the new chairman said he and his executives were prepared to defend the party with their lives.

“We will go there, to move into our headquarters, to conduct our official functions,” he said. “To defend our party, to defend this nascent democracy, we are prepared to lay down our lives.”

The scheduled NWC meeting is set for 10 a.m. and will bring together the party’s governors, National Assembly members, state chairmen, and other key stakeholders. Turaki confirmed he received assurances from the police that they would provide ample protection to ensure law and order.
