Osimhen Makes Final Three for CAF Player of the Year Award

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been announced as one of the final three contenders for the prestigious CAF Player of the Year award.

The Nigerian forward, who claimed the honour in 2023, will now face stiff competition from Liverpool and Egypt star Mohamed Salah, as well as Morocco and Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi, as the race for Africa’s biggest individual football prize reaches its climax.

The Confederation of African Football unveiled the shortlist on Sunday evening, confirming Osimhen’s place among the continent’s elite performers. His nomination comes a year after Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman last lifted the award, reinforcing the strong presence of Nigerian talent on the continental stage.

In the women’s category, Nigeria also secured a spot among the finalists, with Super Falcons forward Rasheedat Ajibade making the top three. She will contend for the trophy alongside Moroccan stars Ghizlane Chebbak and Sanaa Mssoudy, both of whom have enjoyed standout seasons.

The winners will be revealed at the CAF Awards 2025 ceremony, scheduled to take place in Rabat, Morocco, on November 19, beginning at 19:00 local time (18:00 GMT).
