Apple’s iPhone 17 Released, See Spec and Why To Buy One

According to Apple, the new iPhone 17 features “Innovative Centre Stage front camera, a bigger and brighter new display with ProMotion, and the A19 chip for improved performance.” In short, iPhone 17 is better camera, better display and faster phone for a phone that is already fast, awesome display and great camera – everything is bigger, better and faster! Before you rush to the store, note that Pre-orders open Friday, September 12, with availability beginning September 19.

Available in five gorgeous colours — black, lavender, mist blue, sage, and white — iPhone 17 has a beautiful, more durable design.

Available in five gorgeous colours — black, lavender, mist blue, sage, and white — iPhone 17 has a beautiful, more durable design.

Here is a more detailed breakdown of what is new.

Selfie fans will love the new Centre Stage front camera — it automatically keeps you in frame and makes every shot look effortless. On the back, you’re getting a powerful 48MP Fusion Main camera with a crisp 2x Telephoto, plus a new 48MP Ultra Wide camera that’s perfect for sweeping landscapes and close-up macro shots.

The display is bigger and brighter too. At 6.3 inches, the Super Retina XDR screen with ProMotion gives you silky scrolling, immersive gaming, and gorgeous video playback. Apple also added Ceramic Shield 2 to the front, which is tougher than any smartphone glass out there — three times more scratch-resistant and with less glare when you’re out in the sun.

Under the hood, the new A19 chip means faster performance, better efficiency, and all-day battery life with quicker charging. Storage now starts at a roomy 256GB, with a 512GB option if you need the extra space. And yes, it comes in some fresh colors: black, lavender, mist blue, sage, and white.

As Apple’s Kaiann Drance put it: “iPhone 17 is a major upgrade — from the brighter, tougher display and all-day battery life, to our best camera system yet. It’s built for people who want the very latest features and the peace of mind that their iPhone will last.”

A New Lineup: iPhone 17, Air, Pro, and Pro Max

Apple is shaking things up with the iPhone 17 family. The company has retired the “Plus” model and introduced the iPhone 17 Air, its thinnest iPhone ever. Alongside it come the refreshed iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, both redesigned with bold new hardware and major camera upgrades.

iPhone 17 Air

The iPhone 17 Air isn’t just another iPhone — it’s Apple exploring a new design trend. At just 5.6mm thin and weighing 165g, it’s about a third slimmer than last year’s Pro. The phone features a 6.6-inch ProMotion display with Ceramic Shield 2 protection, all wrapped in a lightweight titanium-aluminum frame.

Inside, it’s powered by the A19 Pro chip paired with Apple’s C1X modem and 12GB of RAM, promising all-day battery life. Apple has also created a new full-width “plateau” design that houses both the front and rear cameras, plus Apple Silicon, giving the Air a distinctive look.

iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max

The Pro series gets the most dramatic redesign. The familiar square camera bump is gone, replaced by a bold full-width camera bar — Apple’s take on a design trend we’ve seen from Google Pixel, but executed in a distinctly Apple way.

All three rear cameras now feature 48MP sensors, with the telephoto lens making the biggest leap: a new 56% larger sensor with up to 8× optical zoom. Video also gets serious pro-level upgrades, with support for ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2, and genlock for syncing across multiple cameras. There’s also Dual Capture, letting creators record from the front and back cameras at the same time.

The Pro and Pro Max switch from last year’s titanium to a new aluminum unibody design, paired with a vapor chamber cooling system for better sustained performance. Both phones run on the A19 Pro chip, which Apple claims delivers MacBook-level processing power.

Battery life takes a big step up too: the Pro Max offers up to 39 hours of video playback, the longest ever on an iPhone.

Next-Level Selfies and High-Resolution Captures

The iPhone 17 takes selfies and video calls to a whole new level with its all-new Centre Stage front camera. For the first time, Apple has built in a square front sensor, giving you a wider field of view and sharper shots — up to 18MP for photos. You don’t even have to twist your phone sideways anymore to get that perfect landscape selfie. Just hold it normally, and iPhone 17 will let you snap or film in portrait or landscape while keeping your grip comfortable and your gaze perfectly centred.

For group shots, Centre Stage gets even smarter. Using AI, it automatically widens the frame and can flip between portrait and landscape so everyone fits in. The camera also delivers super-stable 4K HDR video, and with Dual Capture, you can record with the front and rear cameras at the same time — perfect for showing yourself and what’s happening around you. And during FaceTime or any video call, Centre Stage keeps you centred and steady on screen.

On the back, iPhone 17 now features 48MP sensors across all its cameras for the first time. The Main Fusion camera delivers crisp detail with a built-in 2x Telephoto that feels like having two cameras in one. The new 48MP Ultra Wide brings up to 4x more resolution than before, unlocking gorgeous wide-angle and macro shots. Plus, the next generation of Photographic Styles gives you more control over colour, highlights, and shadows — with a brand-new “Bright” style coming in iOS 26 to boost skin tones and add a touch of vibrance to every shot.

Video gets an upgrade too. iPhone 17 records in 4K at 60 fps with Dolby Vision for cinema-quality footage. Creative modes like Cinematic and Action make every clip look polished, while Spatial Audio puts you right in the moment. With Audio Mix, you can fine-tune sound after recording — boosting voices, reducing background noise, and even cutting out wind. And for those with Apple Vision Pro, iPhone 17 can capture spatial photos and videos, letting you relive memories with incredible depth and realism.

Display – Now Pro, More Beautiful and Durable

The iPhone 17’s display gets a serious glow-up this year. With a sleek contoured-edge design, the 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR screen looks bigger and bolder thanks to slimmer borders. It also packs ProMotion technology with an adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz, so everything from scrolling to gaming feels buttery smooth — while staying energy efficient.

The Always-On display keeps your essentials visible — like the time, widgets, and Live Activities — and when you don’t need it, the screen smartly drops down to just 1Hz to save power.

Apple has also stepped up durability with Ceramic Shield 2, a new coating that makes the glass three times more scratch-resistant while cutting glare for clearer viewing. And if you spend a lot of time outdoors, you’ll love the massive 3000-nit peak brightness and 2x better contrast — the brightest, most outdoor-friendly iPhone display yet.

Performance – Next-Level with All-Day Battery Life

At the core of iPhone 17 is Apple’s new A19 chip, built on cutting-edge 3-nanometer tech. It’s faster, smarter, and more efficient — giving you a huge leap in speed and performance. The updated display engine, image signal processor, and Neural Engine power everything from Apple Intelligence features to the latest Photographic Styles. The 6-core CPU is up to 1.5x faster than the A15 Bionic in iPhone 13, while the 5-core GPU is more than 2x faster — unlocking stunning graphics and console-level gaming right in your hand. Each GPU core even has built-in Neural Accelerators, letting iPhone 17 run powerful generative AI models directly on device.

All that power doesn’t come at the expense of battery life. Thanks to A19’s efficiency and iOS 26’s advanced power management, iPhone 17 delivers true all-day battery life — with up to 30 hours of video playback, which is eight hours longer than the last generation. A new Adaptive Power Mode learns your habits and kicks in smartly when you might run low, helping stretch your charge until you can plug in. And when you do, fast charging gets you to 50% in just 20 minutes with Apple’s new 40W Dynamic Power Adapter.

iPhone 17 also debuts the N1, Apple’s custom wireless chip that brings Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread support. Beyond faster speeds, the N1 makes everyday features like Personal Hotspot and AirDrop even more reliable.

Experience – Better with the New Apple Intelligence and iOS 26

Alongside iPhone 17, Apple is rolling out iOS 26 — a big update that makes the iPhone experience smarter, more personal, and more fun.

The new design, called Liquid Glass, gives apps and system menus a fresh, expressive look while keeping everything instantly familiar. Content takes center stage, and the interface feels more polished than ever.

Apple Intelligence is front and center in iOS 26, with powerful new tools built right into the system. Live Translation can now translate text and audio in real time, so you can chat across languages in Messages, FaceTime, or even during phone calls. Visual intelligence has also leveled up — you can take a screenshot and instantly search or act on whatever’s on your screen. And because Apple’s foundation model runs directly on-device, developers can build smart, privacy-first features into their apps that work seamlessly, even offline.

iOS 26 also helps cut out distractions with new screening tools for calls and messages, so you can focus on the conversations that actually matter. And Apple’s most popular apps are getting love too: CarPlay has fresh updates, Apple Music and Maps add new capabilities, Wallet gets smarter, and a brand-new Apple Games app puts all your titles in one clean, easy-to-browse place.

Accessories – Beautiful New Ones Too

Apple is also rolling out new accessories to match the iPhone 17. Alongside the Clear Case with MagSafe, you’ll be able to grab a Silicone Case with MagSafe in five stylish colors: black, neon yellow, light moss, anchor blue, and purple fog.

For those who want a hands-free option, Apple has introduced a brand-new Crossbody Strap. Made from 100% recycled yarns, the strap is soft, comfortable, and designed with built-in flexible magnets and stainless steel sliders so you can adjust the length with ease. It keeps both straps neatly aligned while letting you carry your iPhone securely and in style. The Crossbody Strap will come in 10 colors, including black, light gray, blue, light blue, purple, sienna, green, neon yellow, tan, and orange.

The iPhone 17 will be available in five colors — lavender, mist blue, sage, white, and black — with storage options of 256GB and 512GB. Pricing starts at €979.
