Tragedy in Nollywood: Veteran Actress Peju Ogunmola Loses Only Son

The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of Ayomikun Oluwanisola, the only son of veteran Yoruba actress Peju Ogunmola and her husband, comic legend Sunday Omobolanle (popularly known as Papi Luwe or Aluwe).

A Painful Loss for the Omobolanle Family

Reports confirmed that the heartbreaking incident occurred while the 56-year-old actress was on a movie set. Ayomikun’s untimely passing comes only a few months after he proudly completed his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme—a milestone that had filled his mother with joy and pride.

The devastating news surfaced on Tuesday, sparking an outpouring of grief and condolences across Nollywood. To make matters even more painful, Ayomikun’s death comes just weeks before what would have been his birthday on October 12.

Industry Colleagues Pay Tribute

Top Nollywood stars have taken to social media to console the bereaved family:

  • Odunlade Adekola wrote: “This is a big loss. God will console you ma and the whole family. E le yi po oo.”
  • Biola Adebayo described the tragedy as “devastating and heartbreaking,” praying for God’s comfort for Peju Ogunmola.
  • Kunle Afod admitted, “Hmmmm. My heart has been very heavy.”
  • Femi Adebayo stated: “Life has written a line too heavy for the stage… Today, we mourn with our dear elder, a thespian whose heart now carries the weight no mother should bear.”
  • Ibrahim Yekini (Itele D Icon) prayed in Yoruba: “Olorun ma fi ina omo jo gbogbo abiamo” (May God never let mothers experience the fire of losing a child).
  • Adedimeji Lateef added: “Subuhanalah… This is pain! May the Almighty strengthen you during this tough time ma.”
  • Muyiwa Ademola expressed deep shock: “This is sad! It broke the heart. No accurate words of condolences… The only one to console you is God.”

Legacy of Peju Ogunmola and Papi Luwe

Peju Ogunmola is a respected figure in the Yoruba film industry, having graced the screen for decades with her remarkable performances. She is married to Sunday Omobolanle (Papi Luwe), one of Nigeria’s most beloved comic actors and filmmakers.

The couple’s only child, Ayomikun, was considered the pride of their family. His sudden death has left Nollywood and fans across Nigeria in deep sorrow.

Condolences Pour In

The loss of a child is a grief beyond words, and colleagues, fans, and well-wishers continue to send their condolences, prayers, and tributes to the Omobolanle family.

May Ayomikun Oluwanisola rest in perfect peace, and may the Almighty grant the family the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss.
